Experienced herbalists, novices and herb-curious alike: Bring your favorite spice to class and get ready to taste and nibble at home! We’ll be exploring the actions, energetics, and politicized histories of our common culinary herbs, spices and seasonings. Collectively, we’ll expand our understanding beyond “this herb is for this condition” and talk about how much we can learn about these medicines from just our 5 senses!
Participants may want to be near their kitchen or bring their favorite spice/seasoning/kitchen herb with them to wherever they’ll be tuning in from. We'll cover salt and black pepper too, so it's okay if that's all they have!
Gabe Stonoha is a current clinical intern in VCIH's student clinic. Gabe is interested in how we can ally ourselves with plants as we build a better world. He has been studying herbs and caring for human bodies since 2018, working in the lineages of street medicine and bioregional folk herbalism. His practice is neurodivergent-affirming, rooted in animism, Healing Justice, and Health at Every Size. He is especially interested in perinatal care and the intersection between gut health and mental health. When not in clinic, you might find Gabe tending goats, experimenting in the kitchen, or doing a Wikipedia deep-dive. He lives in the forest on Nooksack territory, in the PNW.
