Are you looking for resources on how to support yourself or your loved ones through gender-affirming chest surgery? In this class, we will discuss the different types of chest surgeries and how to support people through them, but this information can be applied to most surgery care, including other kinds of gender-affirming surgeries.

There is much to consider: when to stop and start taking herbs pre- and post- surgery, emotional support, anesthesia side effects, how to support and nourish the body through healing, how to reduce scarring, and more. You will walk away with an understanding of the phases of surgery recovery as well as pre- and post-surgery care including nutritional and herbal recommendations.

About the Instructor

Matteo Marano is a current clinical intern in VCIH's student clinic. Matteo fell in love with plants in the hills of Pittsburgh and hollers of Virginia. His dedication to the study of herbalism comes from the belief that herbal medicine should be accessible to all. He strives to meet people where they’re at, hear about their unique experiences, and collaborate on an individualized, supportive protocol in which root causes are addressed. Matteo feels especially excited to work with trans people and those experiencing digestive difficulties, emotional distress, chronic illness, and grief–though he is eagerly available for all clients and concerns.
