Course Summary

If you’ve been struggling with food, digestion, and mood or mental health, this class is for you!

In this workshop we’ll explore the gut-brain axis — the two-way communication between our nervous system and our digestive system — to understand how supporting digestive health can positively impact mental health.

While making dietary changes can be an important part of supporting digestion and mental health, this class mostly covers non-dietary changes, like setting a timer and eating food on a regular schedule for a few weeks, chewing on fennel seeds for bloating, and tools for supporting the particular aspects of the nervous system that often contribute to digestive problems.

We’ll talk about the role of stress, and look at how and when to use bitter nervines, herbs that affect the nervous and digestive systems. We will talk about some strategies involving food, but this class is anti-diet and non-dogmatic about food choices.  Instead, we’ll focus on understanding what might be going on physiologically and how to create some simple changes that can have a big impact on digestion and mental health.

This class is ideal for folks interested in working with herbs and practices for self care or community care. If you’re a practicing herbalist looking for simple, accessible tools and tips to help support your clients, you’ll find that here, too!
