In this two hour workshop, we’ll discuss different frameworks for understanding stress and trauma responses in the bodymind and how this knowledge can inform our work as herbalists. We will dig into the debate around polyvagal theory and clarify what is well established in the research on the vagus nerve. We’ll explore the concepts of allostatic load, co-regulation, and neuroplasticity through the lens of herbalism. There will be materia medica including preferred preparations and approaches to dosage. If time allows, we will collaborate as a group to formulate for a couple cases based in common presentations of traumatic stress. This class is particularly relevant for herbalists working with clients or hoping to in the future.
