Course Summary

How do we choose appropriate hormonally active herbs based on a person's presentation and goals? In this workshop, we will go over the basic physiology of sex hormones, their different actions & functions in the body, and different factors that determine their level of activity including: liver function, nutrition, digestive function, age and stress. We will explore different patterns of sex hormone imbalances, mostly focused on people who have ovaries. We will discuss a holistic and gender-affirming approach to hormonal "balance" and differentiate hormonally active herbs in depth, in order to understand better how to choose appropriate herbs based on their expected hormone modulating action. This class will be taught through a trans-inclusive lens. This class is taught at an intermediate level, and best for those who have a foundational understanding of herbs.
